Accountability and Responsibilities

  • Review compliance of business processes to all relevant legal and internal guidelines (e.g. procurement policy) and formulate risk responses to address non-compliance

  • Furnish initial draft of contracts initiated and manage the process of updating and finalising the contract, ensuring that the company gets the best deal possible and that its interests are always protected

  • Assess and provide legal advice on contracts, to highlight and mitigate any risk to the company's legal/regulatory compliance, finances, workforce and/or reputation

  • Proactively manage legal and regulatory risk in relation to company law, technology, data privacy & cybersecurity regulations

  • Primary liaison with the relevant authorities on adoption of new laws and regulations as well as response to any legal inquiries

  • Ensure maintenance of licenses and permits as required to operate business

  • Support employees to address legal & compliance concerns in the course of their work for the company

Education and Experience

  • Law degree from a reputable university (CLP or nationally recognised equivalent would be an advantage)

  • Minimum 6 years' working experience, at least 3 of which must be in legal and compliance

  • Relevant industry experience (e.g. fintech) would be a strong plus

  • Basic understanding of procurement and other corporate functions (minimal experience would be desirable but not mandatory)

Competencies

  • Legal expertise - in depth knowledge of Malaysian laws and regulations, specifically company and contract law, and regulations governing technology, e-commerce, payments, data privacy and cybersecurity

  • Risk management – constantly aware of risks and have the foresight to plan and implement the appropriate risk response before it materialises

  • Analytical – able to review the minutiae of documentation/processes and produce an actionable assessment of any gaps or risks present
